ABSTRACT

This study was carried out on the role of Radio on rural development: A study of nasarawa broadcasting station lafia. Specifically, the study aimed to evaluate the role of Nasarawa Broadcasting Station (NBS) programs on rural development in Nasarawa State, identify the key challenges faced by Nasarawa Broadcasting Station in delivering effective radio programs to rural areas in Nasarawa State, and propose actionable strategies for improving the efficacy and impact of NBS programs on rural development in Nasarawa State. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. Questionnaire was used for data collection which was raised against a five Likert scale of Strongly Agree(SA), Agree(A), Undecided(U), Disagree(D), and Strongly Disagree(SD), and was analysed using the frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation. A total of 100 respondents were conveniently selected as sample size comprising of residents of Lafia and staff of NBS. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that NBS Lafia’s radio programs have a significant impact on rural development in Nasarawa State. On the basis of these findings, it was recommended that the NBS must overcome technical and infrastructure challenges to ensure effective dissemination of information to rural areas. Outdated equipment and unreliable transmission infrastructure can hinder the reach and quality of broadcasts. They should Invest in modern transmitters, antennas, and studio equipment to improve signal strength and clarity. Consider adopting digital broadcasting technologies to enhance the quality and reach of programs.
